A CASUAL STYLE FOR THE OFFICE

Business Casual

Which socks go with the "business casual" dress code

In business, first impressions and everything that follows play an important role. That's why you should wear clothes in the morning that match the dress code of the company in question. But the right choice of socks is also crucial. In the following sections, you will find information and tips on the "business casual" dress code and which men's socks will support you perfectly.

Where do you wear "business casual"?

"Business casual" is usually the everyday dress code for the office, and is also fine when you leave the company to meet clients. Depending on the industry, formal dress codes such as "business attire" still prevail. In work areas such as the back office or in manufacturing and trading companies, comfort has become more relevant and the "business casual" code has established itself.

Famous high-tech entrepreneurs such as Steve Jobs or Bill Gates have made a conscious decision against formal business attire and represent the opinion of the majority of the working population. Casual clothing is not only more comfortable, it also automatically creates a relaxed, collegial working atmosphere.

At the end of the week, "Casual Friday" loosens things up a little and, as the name suggests, clothing can be more casual on Fridays. In companies with formal dress codes, this means that employees come to work in a "business casual" look.

If the dress code on an invitation says "Come as you are", this should be taken literally if your outfit is designated as "business casual", "smart casual" or "business attire". A less presentable casual look, on the other hand, stands out negatively from the crowd among business outfits. In this case, it is worth rummaging through your closet for something more stylish. Also pay attention to your choice of men's socks.

Simple and stylish

In the business world, a professional look is always a must. The word "casual" in this dress code means that the clothing is more comfortable and does not have to be as formal as the traditional "business attire" code requires.

Just like the overall design, employees should also represent the culture and brand of a company. This is expressed in the clothing, among other things, which is why some people nowadays mischievously refer to business attire as a "uniform". Clear, classic cuts characterize this style, neatly and carefully put together. The aim is to show that you have put some thought into your outfit, which is understatedly elegant, professional and yet relaxed.

"Business Casual" for men

A suit without a tie is never wrong. This is the easiest choice, but not necessarily the first if you don't want to be considered a perpetual suit wearer. There is more leeway than with the "Business Attire" code and a little combinatorial flair can counteract monotony.

Shirts are almost a must for men, apart from elegant sweaters in winter. Jackets, blazers and similar overgarments may, but need not, be left at home.

The "business casual" dress code includes many types of pants that can be worn. Suit pants or other fabric pants as well as Dockers, slacks, chinos or cargo pants are permitted. Dark jeans are becoming increasingly popular, but are generally not part of this dress code.

On your feet, wear dark men's socks that harmonize with the rest of your wardrobe. Ideally, there should be one color tone between pants and shoes. The latter may be classic oxfords, elegant loafers or new, unobtrusive athletic shoes - with the exception of tennis shoes.

Pay attention to details

Just like education, high-quality clothes are an investment in the future. A stylish appearance succeeds with exquisite fabrics and lasts longer than with cheap ones. It makes sense to pay attention to details when looking in the mirror: The fabric should be pressed and smooth, there should be no open seams and garments with prints are better saved for the "casual" look.

Company logos, logos of sports clubs, universities or fashion brands are mostly acceptable as long as they are not oversized. The choice of colors tends to be discreet and conservative. Make sure that your beard looks well-groomed. Piercings and tattoos should be concealed.

Difference to "Smart Casual

One is to take business attire and replace a few items with more casual ones, the other is a casual outfit to which a few more formal items of clothing are added. Isn't that the same thing?

Dress codes are less strict than they used to be and can therefore be interpreted differently. In addition to the scope for interpretation, standards differ not only within society, but also from company to company, and individual ideas of appropriate dress develop.

The boundaries between "smart casual" and "business casual" are blurred and not clearly defined. Normally, it is shoes and blazers that differentiate the "smart casual" look. You can also be a little more playful with colors and accents. Individuality and personal style are not overshadowed by the obligation to represent the company. In creative industries, the "smart" dress code is often preferred, where ruffles, lace or fringes are permitted for women and other small and colorful eye-catchers for men.

Watch and learn

With common sense and a little attention, you can take your cue from your colleagues' clothing and at the same time think about your own impact and the impression you want to make on others.

Still unsure whether your choice is appropriate? If in doubt, slip into a more conservative outfit until the current dress code standards are more tangible. Being underdressed makes a worse impression than being dressed more elegantly. What's more, you always have the option of removing an item of clothing, even if it's just a tie, which makes the whole outfit look more relaxed. In addition, there is always the option of asking the HR department or the organizer.

There are many categories and types of clothing for women, which increases the scope. It should be closed shoes, without a heel or with a maximum six-centimeter heel, such as pumps, loafers or ballerinas.
